Duties

DSM is recruiting for permanent full-time positions of General Duty Genomics Technologist for DSM’s Genomics Laboratory at Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Under the general supervision of the Charge Technologists, the incumbent is responsible for performing and interpreting a variety of cytogenetic and DNA diagnostic testing using established protocols. Duties to include set-up, culturing, harvesting, and chromosome analysis of all tissue types, as well as DNA extraction, polymerase chain reaction, endonuclease digestion, gel electrophoresis, DNA sequencing, Southern blotting and hybridization techniques. May also be required to assist in the evaluation of new and modified procedures for DNA based testing, maintaining data in a consistent manner, and assisting in the evaluation and incorporation of equipment and procedures.

Requirements

Interested applicants must be a graduate of an approved Genetics Technology training program and be eligible for, or have attained, certification by CSMLS. Applicants must also be eligible for licensure with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Manitoba (CMLTM).

Preference will be given to those applicants with experience in both cytogenetic and molecular biology techniques.

Days, Monday to Friday with occasional weekend on-call responsibility; 38.75 hours weekly; 7.75-hour shifts

Salary

$30.479 - $35.326 per hour, as per MAHCP contract

This position requires a current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (Including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check as conditions of employment. The successful candidate will be responsible for any service charges incurred. A security check is considered current if it was obtained not more than six (6) months prior to the start of employment.
