In this role you will report to the Manager of Imaging Services, the Charge Technologist’s key responsibilities include performing examinations in their assigned modality; day to day planning, organizing, coordinating and overseeing efficiency of the work in their assigned modality. This includes all the duties of a General Duty Technologist. In addition, the Charge Technologist will participate in department budgeting and be accountable for operating within approved controllable budget. The Charge Technologist will assist with new equipment selection, radiopharmaceutical contracts, and be responsible for maintaining inventory. The Charge Technologist will be responsible for assessing the staffing needs, including overtime and vacation request approvals, and work within allotted FTE limits. The Charge Technologist will guide assigned staff and students in a manner that will help them meet safety, accuracy & reliability standards and requirements. Duties are conducted in accordance with the Standards of Practice of the College of Medical Radiation Technologists of Ontario.

This position also serves as the Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) for the hospital. As per CNSC GD-371 Guide, the RSO must have relevant, practical work experience. RSOs should understand methods and technology to control, use, handle, store and transfer the nuclear substances, and to monitor and control radioactive contamination, radiation fields and radiation exposures. They must also understand pertinent regulatory processes and legislation. These may include the licensing process; conditions of the licenses issued to the institution by the CNSC, training of new and ancillary staff, the Nuclear Safety and Control Act and its regulations; and pertinent CNSC regulatory guidance documents.
