*Operates mammography unit to produce images of the breasts for diagnostic purposes under direction of a physician. Explains procedure to patient, positions and immobilizes patient’s breast in unit and observe during scan.
*Greets the patient, explains the forthcoming test, reviews the requisition, confirms the accuracy of the screening form, generally prepares him/her for the examination, and completes the patient medical history form.
*Performs a full range of mammography technologist duties including screening and diagnostic imaging, needle localizations, and Stereotactic procedures.
*Performs breast imaging procedures.
*Corroborates patient’s clinical history with procedure in assuring information is documented in accordance with quality standards.
*Takes X-ray exposures of patient following protocol for intensity of radiation and time of exposure.
*Trained to perform bone mineral density exams and documents the interpretation of test results
*Prepares patient for procedures, providing instructions to obtain desired results, gain co-operation, and minimize anxiety.
*Operates equipment in such a way as to produce the highest possible quality diagnostic result with a minimum level of discomfort to the patient.
*Evaluates mammograms or other images for technical quality and assures that proper identification is recorded.
*Maintains a Q.A. Manual which includes a list of parameters and the frequency they should be monitored as well as a description of protocol used for monitoring each parameter.
*Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologist (CAMRT) (RTR)
*Certificate in Breast Imaging (CBI)
*College of Medical Radiation Technologists of Ontario (CMRTO) *Trained in Bone Mineral Density
*An advanced level of technical knowledge and skill gained through continuing education and work experience. Also, some degree of supervisory and administrative knowledge and work experience is preferred.
*Is expected to further his or her knowledge and competence by reading, attending courses, and conferences.
*Specialized training in mammographic technology.
The candidate should be able to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as needed.
