The Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS) is the national certifying body for medical laboratory technologists, medical laboratory assistants, and is the national professional society for Canada's medical laboratory professionals. We are a not-for-profit organization that is funded entirely by membership dues and revenues from goods and services.CSMLS has 23 full-time staff all located in Hamilton, Ontario where we offer free parking, competitive salaries and excellent staff benefits. This is an entry level role providing general MLT expertise and administrative support to the Manager, Certification and Prior Learning Assessment (PLA), the certification examination process and the prior learning assessment process. Approximately 4 weekends per year are required to assist with meeting facilitation.
Works with PLA applicants to create and complete learning plans required to be eligible for the Canadian certification process
Provides assistance to PLA clients in the selection of appropriate refresher courses and/or bridging programs
Performs bar chart guidance/reviews
Handles complex correspondence with PLA and exam clients
Conducts quality control of PLA and exam processes
Builds relationships with staff, volunteers and stakeholders
Delivers school presentations on behalf of the society
Conducts statistical reporting/research initiatives
Provides credential verifications
Participates in Exam Panel, Angoff and Item Writing sessions
Supports the production of exam materials
Conducts examination scoring, including hand scoring
Carries out projects as assigned
Requirements & Competencies:
A general Medical Laboratory Technologist degree or diploma
Certified member of the Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Science preferred
Ability to use standard corporate software applications (Word, Excel) at an intermediate level
Superior written/ oral communication skills along with strong customer service orientation a must
Strong analytical skills in order to resolve issues and evaluate possible solutions
Demonstrated ability to carry projects and initiatives to completion
Patient and able to deal with applicants with English as a second language
Discretion and sound judgement in the handling of confidential information
Able to work effectively under pressure with multiple priorities and deadlines
Flexible and adaptable to meet the ever changing demands of the CSMLS
Interest in the not-for-profit sector
Bilingualism is an asset
