Responsible for performing magnetic resonance imaging examinations in accordance with clinic policy and procedures, observing safe radiation protection practices. Duties include receiving and completing requisitions, entering relevant data into the radiology information system, preparing examination trays and patients for specific procedures, operating computerized imaging equipment including processing and archiving of acquired data, monitoring patient during procedures, and monitoring equipment performance.
Duties and responsibilities
Performing MRI examinations of all body areas as per Moncton MRI protocols.
Recognizes and records normal and abnormal structures and modifies procedures as appropriate.
Completes patient contrast allergy sheet. Communicates information as necessary to the Radiologist or attending Physician.
To prepare and/or administer a contrast agent as directed by a radiologist to outline organs or other anatomical structures under investigation.
Assist in the setting up of sterile trays etc., for procedures requiring sterile fields. Draw up contrast materials maintaining sterile technique for administration.
Relate instructions to patients relative to requirements for examinations of specific areas by direction of the clinic policy manual or radiologist.
Documents and communicates pertinent information to other team members.
Responds to emergency situations and performs CPR if required.
Maintains the records necessary to the operation of the department as assigned.
Utilizes RIS and PACS including storage, digitising, retrieval and printing of electronic images
Maintains clean rooms and equipment, reporting service requirements promptly.
Maintains adequate inventory of supplies and materials in the examination areas necessary for the performance of daily examinations.
Ensures the accurate recording of statistical data necessary for the calculation of departmental workload.
Reports any difficulties experienced with the equipment.
Utilizes appropriate methods of patient care to ensure the safety and comfort of the patient, with special attention to adequate provision of patient care in a magnetic environment.
Attends staff meetings as well as in-service and other educational seminars when the opportunity presents itself.
Assists in all quality assurance, quality control, and testing programs as directed by clinic management.
Develops and maintains good public relations and an effective working relationship with patients, the general public, other staff and physicians.
May substitute for administrative duties as required.

Graduation from accredited program in Magnetic Imaging Resonance.
Current certification with Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists (CAMRT).
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Comprehensive knowledge of the standards of practice and guidelines for Medical Imaging practitioners established by the CAMRT and/or other relevant national professional associations.
Broad knowledge of current General Radiography and MRI theory and practices.
Broad knowledge and practice of safe work procedures with radiology equipment.
Broad knowledge of PACS/Radiology Information Systems, i.e. digital imaging, image archiving and retrieval.
Demonstrated ability to develop procedure protocols and manuals.
Demonstrates effective organizational skills.
Physical ability to perform assigned duties.
Ability to communicate effectively with patients, other staff and the general public.
Initiative and good judgment in emergency and crisis situations.
High regard for confidentiality and advocacy for patients.
Demonstrates commitment to continuing education and willing to participate in ongoing education to upgrade knowledge and skills.

Demonstrated skill in MRI techniques and the use of applicable equipment and supplies.
CPR certification, recertified annually.
Certification in venipuncture.
