How do I borrow a book?
You can check out your books yourself! All you need is your Michener Student ID.

Step 1 – Bring your books to the circulation terminal located near the entrance of the LRC

Step 2 – Click the “Check Out” icon.

Step 3 – Scan your Michener ID.

Step 4 – Scan your book.

Step 5 – Click “Close” and you’re done!

How do I Renew a book?
Easy! Just send us an email at lrc@michener.ca and request that the book be renewed.


How many books can I borrow at a time?
As many as you’d like!


What is the length of time I can borrow a book?
Books from our Circulating collection must be returned or renewed after two weeks.


How do I place a hold on a book that’s currently on loan to someone else?
Easy! Just email us the book’s information and we will place a hold on it for you. When the book has been returned, we will notify you that it is available to be picked up!


How do I return my books if the LRC’s closed?
You can return books after hours by dropping them off in our returns slot.


How do I take out an eBook?

Why can’t I access the LRC’s online resources off campus?
Only current Michener students, faculty, and staff have access to the LRC’s online resources while off-campus. Members may access them through any of the computer terminals found in the LRC.


Does it cost anything to borrow a book through the LRC from another library or institution?
Normally no, but there may be a small charge in certain cases.


Can I take out a Short Term Loan item?
Short Term Loan items, found behind the counter near the front entrance, are intended for use in the Learning Resource Centre. They cannot be taken out of the LRC. To use them, please follow the above instructions for borrowing a book, including performing a check out. Before you leave the LRC, please return your Short Term Loan item via the Book Return slot.


Can I check out dry lab materials from the Learning Resource Centre?
Dry lab materials may be accessed within the LRC only.


What if I lose or damage a book or library resource?
If you lose or damage a library resource, you will be required to pay for a replacement. You may also be charged a processing fee.

When is the Learning Resource Centre open?
Our hours are listed here.


What are Open Door Hours?
Open Door Hours are the hours when the doors to the LRC are open, and everyone is welcome.


What are Tap Hours?
During Tap Hours, the LRC doors will be locked. Students can unlock the door by tapping their card to the card reader outside the doors. Extra security will be in place during these hours. As a security measure, each student entering the LRC during Tap Hours must tap and enter individually.


What if I’m already in the LRC when Tap Hours start?
Each student wanting to stay in the LRC for Tap Hours must tap their card on the card reader outside the LRC doors in order to remain in the LRC.


What do I do if my card isn’t working to access Tap Hours?
If your card is not working, speak to the security staff on the main floor. They will assist you.

Printing

I have never printed before. How do I print?

I have never printed before. How do I print?
After sending your print job to one of the two printers found in the LRC, follow these steps:

  1. Tap your Michener ID card.
  2. Type in your username and password.
  3. Select your print job and press “print”.

How much does it cost to print?
15 cents – Single-sided
26 cents – Double-sided


How do I add money to my card for printing?
Follow these steps:

  1.  Go to printing.michener.ca
  2. Log in using the same account you would use to log in to the LRC computers.
  3. Select “Add Credit”.
  4. Select the amount you’d like to add, then click “Add Value”.
  5. If you have a PayPal account, you’ll next enter your account information. If not, click “Don’t Have a PayPal account?” and fill in the required fields.
  6. You’re done!

I am an outside member. Can I print at the LRC?
Unfortunately, no. Only current students, faculty, and staff can print at the LRC.

How do I get on the Wi-Fi?
Michener students should log in to the Michener_Students network using the same login you use for your Michener email.


How do I borrow an iPad?
The LRC has iPads available to borrow for full-time students and staff. You can borrow an iPad for one week. Speak to LRC staff in person if you would like to borrow an iPad.


Are there any apps pre-loaded on the iPads and can I add my own apps?
The iPads are loaded with anatomy apps and borrowers are welcome to download apps from their personal iTunes accounts.
