Learner Outcomes

Designed around the Canadian guidelines for PALS instructors, this course uses group discussion that is based on the pre-course reading materials. As part of the curriculum, you will be given the opportunity to demonstrate your knowledge and skills in teaching stations.

Evaluation Method

During this course you will be expected to demonstrate teaching proficiency in all the skills stations and scenarios. In order to cover all of the PALS material, each participant is asked to prepare eight demonstrations. Your techniques and cases must be based on the PALS Instructional materials including the core cases. Upon  successful completion of the course you must ‘co teach’ at a HSF PALS Provider Course supervised by a HSF PALS Instructor Trainer . You are responsible for registration and any associated fees with the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario.

Intended For

Healthcare professionals responding to pediatric cardiopulmonary emergencies and working in pediatric critical care environments; such as physicians, nurses, respiratory technologists and paramedics. This course is designed for those who have pediatric work experience.

Certificate Program

Following successful completion of the 2 day course, you must successfully 'team teach' a PALS Provider Course supervised by a PALS Instructor Trainer in order to obtain official PALS Instructor status. You are responsible for registration and any associated fees with the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario.

Text books not included in course fee: PALS Instructor Manual, PALS Provider Manual,  ECC Handbook,  PALS DVD,  CORE Training Program,  Evaluating Skills Performance DVDs . The manuals and DVDs available from Heart and Stroke Foundation.
