Continuing Education (CE) at Michener offers specialized CAMLPR bridging courses to help internationally-educated medical laboratory technologists (IEMLTs) and non-traditionally educated individuals (BSc, MSc, PhD related to medical laboratory technology/science) prepare for the Canadian Alliance of Medical Laboratory Professionals Regulators (CAMLPR) Fields-of-Practice Exams.
Developed in alignment with CAMLPR’s Fields-of-Practice Competency Profiles, these courses combine theory and practice to help you refresh your knowledge, gain confidence and fulfill fields-of-practice eligibility requirements as outlined in your CAMLPR PLA (Prior Learning Assessments) as you seek registration to practice as an MLT in Canada.

Courses Offered
Each course focuses on key areas of laboratory science and provides the theoretical and applied knowledge necessary to bridge your international and non-traditional qualifications that have been evaluated by CAMLPR’s PLA (Prior Learning Assessment) process.
Enhance your understanding of hematological principles, blood cell morphology, and laboratory procedures used in diagnosing blood disorders.
Build foundational and advanced knowledge in clinical chemistry — including biochemical analysis, quality control and interpretation of results.
Focus on diagnostic microbiology principles, specimen handling and identification techniques in bacteriology, virology and mycology.
Learn the theory and practice of preparing tissue samples for microscopic analysis through fixation, embedding, sectioning and staining.
Gain knowledge in immunohematology, blood group systems, compatibility testing and transfusion practices critical to patient care.
Who Should Apply
These courses are designed for internationally-educated medical laboratory technologists and non-traditionally educated individuals (BSc, MSc, PhD related to medical laboratory technology/science) who have been assessed by CAMLPR’s PLA process and have been identified as needing bridging education
Program Structure
- 16-week hybrid format combining online learning with applied, in-person, hands-on simulated labs
- The online theory component will consist of a synchronous weekly evening session, individual study and online assessments and the three (3) full day weekends of in-person simulated labs will contain hands-on practice, practical lab assessments and online assessments
- Some courses have simulated labs toward the end (weekend 13, 14, 15 while others have interspersed labs throughout the 16 weeks)
- Designed to meet specific competency gaps identified through CAMLPR PLAs (Prior Learning Assessments)

- Check the labs dates for each course to ensure if you are taking a second course, the labs do not overlap

Can I apply without a PLA (Prior Learning Assessment) from CAMLPR?
You must have a completed and active PLA (Prior Learning Assessment) from CAMLPR in order to apply.
Can I apply with a completed and active PLA (Prior Learning Assessment) from CSMLS?
We are not accepting CSMLS PLAs. If you have a completed and active PLA (Prior Learning Assessment) from CSMLS, please reach out to and register with CAMLPR who will then review it and your supporting documents.
