This is a summer student position. All applicants must provide confirmation of full time student status in current academic year and/or acceptance into full time studies the following September.
Basic Function:
• Reporting to the on-site Senior Leader, the Program Play Leader will assist the on-site Summer Program Coordinators and Full Time town staff in the operation and delivery of the summer camp programs.
Responsibilities:
• Prepare and deliver a theme-oriented children’s recreational program to meet the needs of all participants registered in the program
• Support the objectives and philosophies of the summer program as established by the Recreation and Culture department
• Adhere to department prescribed policies and procedures
• Support and promote the HIGH FIVE "Principles of Healthy Child Development" (PHCD)
• Follow and implement all Health and Safety regulations, COVID-19 Protocols and Public Health Guidelines
Specific Duties:
• Attend all mandatory staff functions from June- September 2023: Including but not limited to, training, scheduled shifts, staff meetings, site clean-ups and all allocated program times
• Arrive at the program site in time to properly prepare for the day's program and start the program according to schedule
• Ensure the continuing safety of all participants while at the program with the assistance of the on-site Senior Leader, advise and document all accidents/incidents immediately. All reports must be received by the department within 24 hours
• Report and document all health and safety related incidents as per guidelines and report to Senior Leader and/or Full Time staff immediately
• Ensure the daily activities are safe, creative, age-appropriate and inclusive of all program participants
• React to emergency situations and behaviour management issues in accordance to department approved procedures
• Maintain accurate attendance and medical records for all participants registered in the program
• Notify the Senior Leader and/or Summer Camp Coordinator of any problems and/or recommendations regarding participants, parents, co-workers or facilities which may affect the quality of the summer operations
• Plan, lead and participate in program-specific special events
• Participate in a daily meeting with the on-site Senior Leader and program staff
• Other duties that may be assigned by the Senior Leader, Summer Camp Coordinator and /or Full-Time staff
Positions Available and Specific Qualifications:
• General Day Camp Programs
-Demonstrate genuine interest in working with children of all ages (preschool-school age)
-Knowledge, training and implementation of behaviour management and childhood development is an asset
• The Town may be running specialized camps (i.e. Arts & Culture, Performing Arts, Science & Technology, Sports and Hockey/Skating). Any experience in one of these areas would be an asset.
Requirements
Qualifications for all positions:
• Must hold prior to start date:
o Current First Aid Certificate at the emergency level
o HIGH FIVE Principles of Healthy Child Development (PHCD) Certification (see below for more information)
• Produce a satisfactory Criminal Reference Check (CRC) including vulnerable sector screening, dated within 30 days of hire
• Experience as a family babysitter, church school helper, sports coach, day care assistant, or other related position
• Camp specific experience is considered an asset
• All applicants must provide confirmation of full time student status in current academic year and/or acceptance into full time studies the following September
• Strong problem solving and effective program planning skills
• Previous work experience with children with disabilities, experience with one on one support (Feeding, changing, toileting, etc.) and behavior management is an asset
• Ability to work independently and in a team environment
HIGH FIVE Principles of Healthy Child Development (PHCD Certification) Information:
