As directed, is responsible to the Laboratory Manager(s) for the day-to-day operation of one or more of the following areas - Biochemistry, Cytology, Hematology, Histology, Microbiology, Phlebotomy/ECG, Transfusion Medicine and/or combination of any of the above.
The Charge Technologist performs a range of tests and procedures related to their section and/or department(s). Under the direction of the Laboratory Manager(s) or departmental Director these technologists plan, organize, coordinate and control the work of a formally recognized unit of operation. The Charge is responsible for organizing staffing schedules, assessing unit staffing needs and ensuring that all work of assigned staff meets accuracy and reliability standards and requirements. The Charge will develop protocols for new or revised methods and/or procedures. The Charge directs and monitors the functions of the areas to ensure optimum patient care results in a timely manner, as well as participate in a regular pattern of technological bench duties.
•Holds current registration with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario.
•OLA assessor training an asset.
•Minimum 6 years recent experience with course in Department Management (CHA) preferred.
•Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) General, plus A.R.T. Clinical Microbiology, A.R.T. General or Bachelor of Science (BSc) in related subject or willingness to obtain.
•Advanced people management skills are essential.
•Advanced Courses in Department Speciality essential.
•Advanced computer skills are essential - E-mail, word processing and specialized laboratory programs (Meditech).
•Demonstrated ability to deal effectively and co-operatively with all levels of staff, patients, and the public.
•Demonstrated communication, organizational and time management skills.
•Demonstrated ability to work independently and use good judgement when making decisions.
•Demonstrated ability in equipment and method validation procedures.
•Demonstrated ability to maintain good attendance.
•Demonstrated ability to lead and promote a positive attitude within the team.
•Demonstrated ability to keep up to date technically and apply that knowledge to the position.
•Demonstrated ability to maintain a good attendance record and meet the performance standards of the Health Centre.
$36.92 - $45.75 per hour based on experience
