As CHEO’s Perfusionist Clinical Practice Lead you will have a pivotal leadership role, working with partners, to design and develop innovative models that ensure a sustainable pediatric cardiovascular surgery program for Ontario.

Duties
Within CHEO, you will have the opportunity to:
• Work with other clinical Directors and senior leaders to develop and implement CHEO’s perfusionist program
• Work closely with the Vice President Acute Care and Cardiovascular Surgery Leadership Team to implement quality improvement initiatives
• As part of the One Program Two Site model for Pediatric CV Surgery, work with counterparts at Sick Kids towards maintaining evidence-based care and standards across both sites.
• Build and sustain relationships with key partners to design a regional model for perfusion services and ensure seamless integration and timely communication with the University of Ottawa Heart Institute management and clinical teams
• Oversee CHEO’s perfusionist team as it is redeveloped and implemented
• Participate in proper selection, maintenance and replacement of CHEO’s perfusion equipment for cardiopulmonary bypass, ECMO, cell saver and related point-of-care technologies as required
• Provide profession specific review, recommendations and endorsement regarding best practices, policies & procedures, research
ethics board submissions on behalf of the profession.
• Identify legislative issues related to the discipline, interpret professional standards, and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements which includes the review of and recommendations regarding policies and procedures
• Support identifying and developing internal talent to develop CHEO’s perfusionists and ECMO specialist capabilities.
• Train, review, verify, and monitor workload measurement
• Provide input to management on issues related to discipline competencies and standards of practice
• Collaborate and problem solve with other Professional Practice Leaders to address issues related to inter-professional practice
• Liaise with educational and research organizations; provide discipline specific endorsement for research ethics submissions prior
to review by appropriate approval committees
• Collaborate with other health care providers, educators and researchers to develop and implement joint clinical, research and teaching initiatives
• Participate in/provide educational opportunities that support and advance professional practice; ensure staff are actively involved
in continuing education
• Coordinate student training opportunities and represent CHEO – OCTC on academic committees and oversee orientation, training, supervision and evaluation of students
• Provide clinical services to maintain clinical proficiency and support operations including on-call coverage as required.
• Oversee quality and safety of perfusion services at CHEO
Requirements
Qualifications and skills required
• Certified with the Canadian Society of Clinical Perfusion and/or American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion
• A minimum 5 years of hands-on clinical experience with pediatric perfusion
• Familiarity with key CV Surgery databases including PC4 and STS
• Demonstrated excellence in communication and relationship skills in a multidisciplinary team and with community partners
• Experience in leadership including quality and safety improvements within a team environment
