The cytogenetics technologist, under the responsibility of the department head, performs analyses according to established procedures. He/she carries out the pre-analytical, analytical and post-analytical stages of each request while putting into practice the principles of quality management.

The technologist works in close collaboration with specialists and physicians, contributing to the analysis of results.

The Cytogenetics Laboratory of the Sainte-Justine UHC, specialized in prenatal screening and oncology, offers a wide range of analyses such as CGH, qF-PCR, FISH, pre-implantation screening (PGD), karyotypes, etc.

Summary of responsibilities

- Reception of biological samples including data entry;
- Processing and culture of samples, according to clinical diagnosis and/or source (blood, marrow, amniotic fluid, tissues, etc.);
- Preparation of samples for analysis;
- Analysis of biological samples, according to procedures;
- Interpretation of the results;
- Maintenance and calibration of equipment;
- Application of and participation in the principles of the quality management system and the continuous improvement of the laboratory


Must have a Diploma of Collegial Studies (DCS) in Biomedical Analysis Technology from a school recognized by the Ministère de l'Éducation, du Loisir et du Sport and an Attestation of Collegial Studies (ACS) in Clinical Cytogenetics.
