Position Overview:
The Clinical Terminology and Integration Analyst II (Laboratory) is responsible for the clinical integrity and normalization of hospital clinical data. The analyst uses combination of clinical and technical knowledge to “map” facility system codes to the enterprise terms defined in a specialized dictionary accessible through the clinical nomenclature tool. This domain expert works closely with hospital personnel to resolve clinical terminology standardization issues and uses technical tools to ensure data quality and integrity of the electronic health record.

- Evaluates and researches clinical data
- This task requires a comprehensive understanding of the clinical meaning, as well as an active communication and collaborative work within the team and among hospital partners
- Performs analysis of HL7 posting errors that require a transformation fix at the interface level
- Interface requirements are ascertained through data verification and are described to the transformation team
- Offers solutions or suggestions to hospital partners in regards to ambiguous clinical data, HL7 gap and/or incorrect data, query table requests and other related mapping issues
- Required to respond to any client requests or concerns in a timely manner
- Monitors client LIS dictionary and HL7 data flow, end to end process starting from the site’s interface engine, to receipt in the electronic health record repository to the provider front end
- Performs daily maintenance of domain imported dictionary extracts with LOINC encoding, analysis of synonym failures and HL7 messages
- Works with manager and senior staff for the development and refinement of the terminology standards as related to Laboratory science
- Performs data testing analysis and confirmation for internal specialty projects and/or application upgrades
- Participates in site Integration: A comprehensive process entailing an initial laboratory extract analysis, data feed integrity analysis, LOINC mapping of Lab and Microbiology domains, query table of issues, data verification, site dictionary and HL7 analysis, post live data monitoring
- Maintains privacy compliance as per the Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA)


Required Knowledge:
- Clinical experience in hospital Core Laboratory and Microbiology department
- Working knowledge of various LIS systems including, but not limited to: Meditech, Cerner, McKesson, SunQuest
- Working knowledge of laboratory data, tests, procedures, and policies
- Working knowledge of medical terminology with an emphasis on Laboratory terms
- Understanding of medical/hospital business process cycle and workflows that ensure completeness and accuracy of health information

Required Skills & Abilities:
- Experience with HL7 messaging and system-to-system interfaces preferred
- Experience in Core lab and Microbiology terminology mapping preferred
- Experience in maintenance of LIS dictionary preferred
- Experience with MS Office tools
- Ability to adapt to change efficiently and effectively
- Ability to learn new tasks quickly
- Excellent communication skills (able to present to technical and non-technical resource)

Required Professional Designation/Certification:
- Medical Laboratory Technology Degree, Diploma or equivalent
- MLT certification

Required Experience:
- Clinical experience in hospital Core lab
- 5+ Microbiology lab experience preferred
