The Alberta Children’s Hospital (ACH) is a bright modern, family centered facility that is a cornerstone for quality care and research for the children of Calgary and southern Alberta. The Pediatric Cardiology Clinic at the Alberta Children’s Hospital provides specialized care for infants, children and youth with medical disorders including cardiac complications and cardiac defects such has congenital heart disease which require medical management. The Cardiology clinic includes the Pediatric Electrocardiogram (ECG) Lab providing cardiac rhythm evaluation and testing and the Pediatric Echocardiography Lab which specializes in diagnostic ultrasound scanning of the heart. As the Diagnostic Medical Sonographer I for the ACH Cardiology Clinic, you are a member of the Cardiology multi-disciplinary team and have an integral role in performing echocardiographic diagnostic testing within the Cardiology Department. You will be responsible for performing Neonatal and Pediatric Echocardiographic examinations for outpatients and inpatients with congenital heart disease or other cardiac conditions. As a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer I, you will perform a variety of standardized and complex ultrasound services for the diagnosis and tracking of disease and pathology. Your responsibilities include preparing the patient for examination, reviewing patient history, explaining procedures, obtaining ultrasound images of diagnostic quality, and takes initial action to resolve abnormal findings. You will assist with diagnosis, clinical intervention and patient management all while ensuring a high level of patient care and safety. Your work may include assisting Radiologists and Cardiologists, Perinatologists and other medical staff with special procedures where required.
• Completion of extended diploma from an accredited ultrasound program or completion of certification in Diagnostic Sonography from an accredited program.
• Active or eligible for registration with Sonography Canada and Alberta College of Medical Diagnostic & Therapeutic Technologists (ACMDTT).
• Current Basic Cardiac Life Support Healthcare Provider (BCLS-HCP).
• American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) registration may be considered for designations not offered by Sonography Canada.
• Echocardiography experience.
• Neonatal and/or Pediatric Echocardiography experience.
• 2 years (4000 hrs) experience within the last 5 years as a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer.
38.75 per week
$39.27 - $50.64 per hour
