Pathology and Laboratory Medicine – Clinical MicrobiologyApplications are invited for the position of Laboratory Assistant III in the Pathology and Laboratory Medicine -Microbiology Area. Duties include, but are not limited to specimen processing, data entry, media preparation, decontamination, packaging of specimens for transport and a wide range of duties to support diagnostic testing processes. The Laboratory Assistant III applies specific knowledge and skills to perform pre-analytical and post-analytical work. This position will be support work during the COVID pandemic including but not limited to, COVID specimen receiving, COVID data entry, COVID test preparation. This lab operates 24/7. Rate of Pay: $26.84 per hour - $30.93 per hourHours of work: Up to 45 hours bi-weekly
Certification as a Laboratory Assistant by Ontario Society of Medical Technologists (OSMT) or Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS)
Minimum of 6 months recent laboratory experience
Microbiology laboratory experience preferred
Demonstrated excellent computer and keyboarding skills with Microsoft Word and Excel; experience with Cerner preferred
Demonstrated knowledge of laboratory protocols and terminology
Demonstrated knowledge of anatomy and medical terminology
Knowledge of Transportation of Dangerous Goods-Certification preferred
Demonstrated knowledge of preparation of media and reagents
Demonstrated knowledge of decontamination procedures and related equipment
Demonstrated knowledge of basic laboratory equipment maintenance
Demonstrated knowledge of PCR Extraction Procedures
Demonstrated knowledge of CISPRO Inventory system
Demonstrated ability to collaborate, develop and maintain effective relationships within healthcare teams
Demonstrated manual dexterity
Demonstrated strong interpersonal, communication (both verbal and written) and conflict resolution skills
Demonstrated strong multi-tasking, problem solving and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize
Demonstrated flexibility and ability to effectively manage change in a dynamic environment
Demonstrated ability to work independently
Demonstrated practice and commitment to the principles of patient and family centered care
Demonstrated practice and commitment to patient and staff safety at LHSC
Demonstrated practice and commitment to LHSC’s Mission, Vision and Values
Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis
Provide vaccination records or proof of immunity against measles, mumps, rubella and varicella (chicken pox), Hepatitis B, Tetanus/ Diphtheria/Polio; Meningitis.
Provide documentation of the Tuberculosis skin testing (two step)
