Medical Laboratory Technologist

Operate and maintain analytical instruments and other laboratory equipment safely and effectively.
Perform routine and special procedures in the following disciplines: Hematology, Coagulation, Immunohematology, Biochemistry, Microbiology and Electrocardiography.
Adapt to changes including workload, emergency situations, instrument breakdown, shortage of personnel and planned changes.
Participate in quality control, cost-effective initiatives and EQA (External Quality Assessment) programs.
Follow all laboratory and hospital policies and procedures.
Provide advice on choice of examinations, use of services when appropriate.
Be aware of potentially hazardous materials, equipment and situations, and possess the ability to deal with them accordingly.
Perform clerical duties as required in the laboratory (i.e. maintaining and filing patient records, faxing results, tabulating month-end statistics, and submitting reports to appropriate areas).
Provide stand-by/on-call coverage after hours.
Orientate new staff members and facilitate the placement of laboratory and co-op students.
Assist with monitoring inventory of stock materials.
In absence of Sr. Tech, the on call tech will assume the Quality Manager’s duties.
Participate in departmental staff meetings and in-service education sessions, as required.
Degree or diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology from an accredited university or community college.
Current Registration with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario.
Registered Laboratory Technologist (MLT) with the Canadian Society of Laboratory Technologists.
Minimum of one (1) year experience as a general duty technologist in a hospital setting is preferred.
Bilingualism in both official languages is an asset.
Knowledge and understanding of the Indigenous cultures/languages is an asset.
Knowledge or familiarity with Patient Information software systems is an asset.
