Duties
Sinai Health is looking for a Non Registered Technologist to support our Diagnostic Medical Genetics team at Mount Sinai Hospital.
Reporting to the Senior Manager of Diagnostic Medical Genetics, Non-Registered Technologist performs tasks under the direct oversight of a Registered Medical Lab Technologist (MLT) and adheres to established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to perform a variety of laboratory tasks and functions that include but are not limited to:
• Prepares and quantifies Next Generation Sequence (NGS) libraries
• Performs manual PCR setups, primer validations and Sanger Sequencing
• Performs nucleic acid (DNA, RNA) extractions and quantification and assists with agarose gel electrophoresis runs
• Performs culture room activities as assigned
• Prepares reagents and solutions applicable to tests performed in the laboratory
• Uses database or the laboratory information system to track specimen testing
Requirements
**Required:**
- Required, at minimum, completion of MSc in Biological Sciences with significant Molecular Genetics content
- Minimum four (4) years of related laboratory experience in molecular/genetics techniques required
- Must obtain registration with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario in Clinical Genetics within two years of date of hire as a condition of employment
- Demonstrated experience in manual and automated DNA/RNA extraction and quantification methods
**Preferred:**
- One (1) year related work experience in a clinical/diagnostic laboratory setting with high throughput automated
- Demonstrated experience in NGS and PCR setups and Sanger Sequencing techniques
