Position Summary
Vernon Jubilee Hospital in Vernon, B.C. is looking for a Permanent Full Time Professional Practice Leader– Medical Imaging Services to join their team!
Administrative Component:
This position is accountable for the administration, supervision, planning and budgeting of the department. Reports to the Area Director, Medical Imaging on administrative matters and advises on budgets, workload, labour relations and personnel. Responsible for interpreting and implementing all institutional regulations, policies and procedures as they apply to Medical Imaging services.
Professional Leader Component:
Ensures standards for Medical Imaging staff are consistent with regulatory, accrediting body standards and relevant legislation. Provides clinical guidance to designated Medical Imaging staff practicing in the facility. Advises Director on matters regarding Medical Imaging practices.
Administrative Duties Include:
1. Monitors and evaluates the effective use of all resources and their impact on services.
2. Responsible for the financial management of the department including budget preparation, monitoring and reporting of expenditures including investigating and justifying variances. Makes recommendations to the Director regarding budgetary requirements.
3. Responsible for the formulation of technical justification for capital equipment, preparation of specifications, tender summary analysis and equipment purchase recommendations.
4. Participates in the negotiation of all operating and equipment supply contracts with the Purchasing Department and the Director.
5. Responsible for the clinical direction and performance of designated staff.
6. Recruits, short lists, interviews and hires departmental employees; Mentors staff and provides input into departmental and health service area recruitment and succession planning.
7. Evaluates employee performance including preparation and administration of performance appraisals. Disciplines staff up to the point of termination in consultation with Director and Human Resources.
8. Directs the operation of the department by scheduling and coordinating staff assignments. Ensures adequate staffing levels by preparing staff work schedules, rotations and vacations in accordance with collective agreements and IHA policies and procedures.
9. Reviews and provides updates for position descriptions for all staff classifications in the department as necessary.
10. Compiles required organizational information including statistics and reports.
11. Ensures routine and formalized maintenance programs are carried out on all departmental equipment and on the physical plant.
12. Represents Medical Imaging on appropriate internal and external committees or projects.
13. Maintains good working relationships with radiologists, department heads, medical staff and other personnel within the facility and from other IHA facilities.
Professional Leader Duties Include:
1. Provides leadership to the profession and acts as a clinical resource person to designated departmental staff in the provision of Medical Imaging services.
2. Develops, implements and maintains the Quality Management program encompassing Quality Assurance/Control, Risk Management and Utilization Review related to the provision of departmental services.
3. Formulates departmental administrative and technical objectives, standards and policies and procedures in consultation with radiologists, departmental staff, Director, relevant interdisciplinary team members and by utilizing professional resources.
4. Develops and fosters effective relationships with colleagues and peers within Interior Health, external agencies, and professional and licensing bodies that positively influence professional practice.
5. Maintains awareness of new approaches to care and service delivery in the area of Medical Imaging practice. Advocates changes in practice that have the potential to benefit staff, patient care and service delivery.
6. Ensures the development, implementation and evaluation of an educational program for Medical Imaging staff to address educational needs related to professional practice. Facilitates the development of communication systems for department staff to be informed of educational and research programs offered outside the facility.
7. Performs clinical imaging duties as required.
Requirements
Qualifications
Graduate of an accredited medical radiological technology program.
Must have current certification with the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists (CAMRT).
Successful completion of a recognized management program such as, Hospital Departmental Management course by CHA (Canadian Hospital Association), Health Care Management Certificate by BCIT (B.C. Institute of Technology), etc.
Five years recent experience in performing general radiological / Diagnostic Imaging procedures including three years of supervisory experience.
Valid BC driver’s license.
