As an integral member of the Advanced Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory, the responsibilities of the Genetics Technologist In Molecular Diagnostics include: utilizing practical and theoretical knowledge to perform laboratory procedures and functions, including development and validation of new molecular diagnostic equipment and assays including next-generation sequencing technologies; troubleshooting of molecular assays with team leads; completing assigned workload to ensure the efficient operation of the laboratory; maintaining quality control standards in assigned area(s); demonstrating understanding of the operational theories/procedures and performance characteristics of instruments/equipment; efficient use of laboratory equipment and supplies; participating in communication activities to maintain and continually enhance the co-operation and coordination of services with other laboratory staff in the assigned area; participating in professional development, teaching/education activities, safety and quality improvement programs to ensure excellence in the provision of services; adhering to Hospital and departmental mission and value statements while maintaining patient confidentiality; performing cross-functional duties as assigned, or requested; performing other duties related to and consistent with the job classification, as required.


Completion of a recognized Medical Laboratory Technologist program in Genetics preferred

Current registration with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario (CMLTO) or Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS) preferred

Experience in molecular genetics techniques essential

Knowledge of and experience with next-generation sequencing platforms an asset

Demonstrated knowledge of laboratory procedures, instruments, equipment and special techniques

Excellent problem recognition and problem-solving skills essential

Effective organizational, time management and prioritization skills

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Ability to work independently and as a team member

Must be computer literate in Windows based applications

Willing to perform different laboratory shifts if required by the laboratory

Demonstrated interest in continuing education




Range: $34.14 per hour to $36.27 per hour


This position is PERMANENT full-time.
