Position Summary
We invite Certified Respiratory Therapists to apply for a permanent, part-time opening at East Kootenay Regional Hospital.

EKRH Respiratory Therapy Department operates 24/7 offering Acute Care including High Acuity Response Team (HART). HART is a comprehensive, regionally coordinated external transport care for critical care patients. This service brings Critical Care Nurses and Respiratory Therapists by ambulance when a situation requires an advanced level of care that the ambulance crew cannot perform. On call required for HART.

Relocation allowance eligibility for the eligible candidate. Days of work are rotating and will consist of either Day, Evening, or Night shifts. Opportunity to work up to full time hours is available.

Most standard tasks associated with any ICU including ventilator management, artline insertions, airway management, respiratory assessment, home oxygen assessment, initiation, maintenance, weaning and discontinuation of respiratory equipment, participation on HART calls.

Respiratory Therapists are relied upon for their urgent airway and respiratory assessment expertise throughout the hospital and with all patient populations. They are a valued member of the ICU team as they participate in daily rounds and the creation of patient care plans. Multidisciplinary colleagues depend on the RTs for their recommendations with ward patients, their assistance with discharge planning, and home oxygen assessments.

It is not one-sized fits all as we recognize that all clinicians come with various backgrounds and expertise. If time in the Operating Room is required for intubations, for example, then that time is arrange with our local anesthetists. We have a robust orientation checklist that must be completed and signed prior to working shifts alone. Educational opportunities for CPR, PALS, NRP, ACLS, various SIM sessions, and intermittently: Acorn, ITLS, etc.

We are looking for a Respiratory Therapist who is self-directed, a strong team player, a patient advocate, skilled in verbal and written communication, and passionate about respiratory therapy as a profession.

Requirements

Qualifications
• Graduation from a recognized Respiratory Therapy program.
• Current certification with the Canadian Society of Respiratory Therapists (CSRT) and eligible for registration with the British Columbia Society of Respiratory Therapists (BCSRT) and CSRT.
• Current valid BC Driver’s License.
