The Transfusion Safety Officer (TSO) is responsible for the quality and safety of transfusions within the Health Centre by monitoring hospital transfusion practices to ensure compliance with the established requirements and standards. Key functions of the position will be monitoring and reporting on activities related to patient and transfusion safety, ; developing quality improvement activities ensuring compliance with transfusion best practice with; education for patients, staff, volunteers and physicians; implementation of transfusion related policies and procedures; tracking of transfusion reactions, incidents and near misses; and acting as a liaison with Transfusion Medicine Lab, Patient Blood Management (PBM) and Professional Practices.
Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) with current registration with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario (CMLTO) or Registered Nurse (RN) with current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
•Three (3) years relevant work experience in Blood Bank, ORBCON or CBS.
•Two (2) years leadership or education experience required.
•Computer skills and knowledge of word processing and other educational tools.
•Knowledge and demonstrated experience with application of Canadian Society for Transfusion Medicine (CSTM) and Canadian Standards Association (CSA) Standards related to Transfusion Medicine.
•Advanced communication skills required.
•Demonstrated project management experience required.
•Demonstrated ability to understand and appropriately respond to the concerns of others, practicing active listening when interacting with individuals or groups and the ability to reflect on verbal and non-verbal behaviour and communicate effectively.
•Demonstrated ability to collaborate and engage constructively with others to be part of the team working with others.
•Demonstrated ability to advocate, motivate, persuade, convince or influence others to gain support and commitment.
•Demonstrated organizational awareness with a clear sense of organizational impact.
•Demonstrated desire to provide quality, patient centered care.
•Demonstrated ability to maintain a good attendance record and meet the performance standards of the Health Centre
Part- Time (up to 23 hours per week)
