Position Summary:
The Ultrasound Charge Technologist is responsible for assisting in the planning, organization, coordination and control for all work within the Ultrasound modality. Reporting to the Director of Diagnostic Imaging, the Ultrasound Charge Technologist is responsible for organizing the staffing schedule, assessing staffing needs and ensuring that all work of assigned staff meets accuracy and reliability standards and requirements. The Charge Technologist may approve overtime and/or allow time off. The Charge Technologist may develop protocols for new and revised methods and/or procedures. The Charge Technologist is encouraged to make recommendations or decisions on the units budget estimate, monitor the unit’s expenditures against the budget estimate and /or administer the unit’s budget when appropriate.

In addition to this, the Ultrasound Charge Technologist performs the range of duties within the scope of practice of Ultrasound Technologist and performs diagnostic imaging examinations utilizing sonography techniques specialized for imaging of the body. The Ultrasound Charge Technologist uses their knowledge and skills to perform ultrasound examinations utilizing a technology that creates detailed and dynamic images of the body’s internal organs using high frequency sound waves. The Ultrasound Charge Technologist ensures the care provided is safe, appropriate, tailored, timely, and maximizes the potential of the available equipment and resources.


Qualifications, Experience, Skills and Abilities:

• Current Sonography Canada registration
• Graduate of a Canadian recognized Ultrasound program
• Small Parts, General, Abdominal and Obstetrical experience
• RVT required including segmental pressure testing, MSK experience an asset
• Accurate and thorough practical and theoretical Ultrasound skills
•Minimum 5 years’ recent Ultrasound experience
• Knowledge and experience in multiple modalities an asset
• Demonstrates an understanding of and commitment to GGH’s comprehensive safety programs and practices including staff safety, patient safety, and environmental safety and participates in regular in-service education and e-learning in this area as required
• Previous Hospital experience an asset
• Demonstrated commitment to best practice, standards of practice, and life-long learning
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written
• Strong organizational and time management skills
• Strong leadership, critical thinking, problem solving and decision-making skills
• Ability to identify process improvement opportunities and implement solutions
• Must act as a positive advocate for the professional body of ultrasound/sonography and the Diagnostic Imaging Department
• Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment
• Demonstrated commitment to excellent customer service when interacting with patients, families, colleagues and physicians
• Demonstrated skills in teaching/training
• Demonstrated skill in multitasking and time management and evidence of sound organizational and prioritization skills with the ability to work well in stressful situations
• Intermediate computer skills with experience using Microsoft Word/Excel/PowerPoint
