Print and Audiovisual Collection
The Learning Resource Centre (LRC) supports learning at Michener with a collection of books and print journals, including special collections such as examination review guides, laboratory standards, and government documents. An extensive audiovisual collection is also available, and equipment for individual viewing is provided.
Our catalogue facilitates searching our book and audiovisual collections, eBooks, Dry Lab collection, and print and electronic journal titles.
Full-text electronic journals (EBSCO, ScienceDirect, Wiley Online Library and others) and indexes (PubMed, CINAHL, ERIC) are accessible from our Journal Databases page. Some titles are freely available, while others require authentication and are limited to staff with Michener network/Outlook accounts.
Please request a list of current journal paper subscriptions and indicate the titles you would like routed to you. As each new issue arrives, it is checked out to you automatically and forwarded to you via in-house mail.
Temporary Short Term Loans
Faculty may request that specific LRC materials be moved to the short term loan shelf for a specified time period. This is designed to accommodate periods of peak demand for some resources, e.g. prior to student assignment deadlines.
Research and Training
Demonstrations of the LRC catalogue, PubMed, Zotero, and any LRC resource can be arranged for groups or individuals.
For information and advice consult our guide on Vancouver Style or APA Style referencing, or contact LRC staff. The LRC recommends Zotero, a bibliographic citation manager that allow users to import, store and manage citations (references) and then create bibliographies/reference pages formatted in either Vancouver or APA Style, or one of several other styles available.
Contact LRC staff if you require information on pricing, current editions or availability, to be put in contact with publishers’ representatives, or to suggest materials for the Learning Resource Centre collection.
The LRC acts as the liaison with the University of Toronto Bookstore. Document your required and recommended textbooks in the Michener Textbook Bank to have textbooks available at the bookstore for student purchase. Contact LRC staff for more information.
Materials not available in the LRC may be borrowed from other health sciences libraries. Speak to LRC staff to request an interlibrary loan.
LRC staff are available to give information on copyright legislation and Michener’s Fair Dealing Policy. Obtain a Copyright Permission Request form from the LRC or on myMichener.
Books may be borrowed for 28 days. Exceptions:
- Reference books may usually be used within the LRC only. Find them on the self-serve shelves.
- Short term loan books may be used within the LRC only. Ask for them at the circulation desk.
- Journals may be borrowed for one week.
- Audiovisual materials may be viewed within the LRC or borrowed for one week.
Up to three renewals are possible, unless another borrower has requested the item. Renew items by email.
We charge for the replacement of lost items, based on current market value plus an administrative fee.
