On Thursday, September 26, the Michener community came together for an exciting evening of nostalgia and celebration at the 2024 Michener Homecoming.
Guests, ranging from recent graduates to longstanding members of the Michener community, gathered in the institute’s lobby for a special cocktail reception, accompanied by a live string duo serenading with then with modern and classic hits. Attendees enjoyed a selection of wines generously donated by the event’s sponsor, Magnotta Winery.
A special alumni giveaway had graduates reminiscing about their time at Michener, and the lucky winner walked away with top Michener merch. A highlight of the evening was a multi-prize raffle in support of Michener’s Student Bursary Fund.
Christine Nielsen (Medical Laboratory Science ’97), current member of Michener’s Alumni Association and former Chair, provided opening remarks and introduced the evening’s special guest, Rossana Magnotta (Medical Laboratory Science ’73). As the CEO of Magnotta Winery and Michener’s 2004 Alumni of Distinction award recipient, Rossana shared her inspiring journey from Michener’s labs to the wine industry. She discussed her ongoing dedication to healthcare through the establishment of the G. Magnotta Foundation for Vector-Borne Disease, and Magnotta Winery’s Venture Series line. Proceeds from each Venture Series bottle benefit the groundbreaking work underway at the G. Magnotta Research Lab at the University of Guelph.
Fiona Cherryman, Michener’s VP of Academic and Operations, provided closing remarks, expressing gratitude to Christine and Rossana for their unwavering support and commitment to Michener and the future of healthcare.
This memorable evening underscored the strength and unity of the Michener community and its dedication to future graduates.
