Toronto, Ontario — The Michener Institute of Education at UHN is proud to announce that we have received new project finding from the Ontario Council on Articulation and Transfer (ONCAT) to expedite credit transfer assessments for students applying to Michener’s direct-entry healthcare programs.
With the healthcare system facing dire staff shortages across the industry, Michener’s priority is to establish pathways to Michener healthcare programming to bring graduates into the field as quickly as possible. Expediting transfer credit assessments means lifting even more barriers so that dedicated and qualified grads can enter the system faster.
The ONCAT project will help Michener identify students’ eligible transfer credits early in the admission process, allowing students to apply prior education to their programs, complete their programs at an appropriate pace and make informed decision about their education.
The project will also bolster Michener’s administrative capacity by building suitable transfer credit policies and records of eligible internal and external courses that can be used for credit.
“Our goal with this initiative is to unlock pathways and build a positive student experience,” says Lori Peppler-Beechey, Michener’s Associate Vice Principal, Academic. “Through ONCAT’s support, Michener can expedite our prior learning assessment for applicants so they can feel confident that Michener is the right choice for their education and healthcare career path.”
Michener’s transfer credit assessment project will run from February 2025 until April 2026.
