Duties
Description: The Cardiovascular (CVT) Technologist will prepare patients for and conduct such diagnostic tests as electrocardiograms, stress tests, Holter monitors and loop recorders in an accurate, professional, and timely manner. CV Technologists are responsible for providing preliminary results of stress tests, Holter monitors and ECGs to the most responsible care provider CV Technologists are responsible for the use and maintenance of supplies and equipment and may assist in the clerical duties associated with scheduling and filing results of ECG tests.

Requirements:
• Graduate of a recognized Cardiovascular Technologist program or equivalent.
• Current registration with the Canadian Society of Cardiology Technologists (CSCT)
• Good knowledge of EKG, Exercise tolerance and Holter scanning/analysis and reporting.
• Current Basic Cardiac Life Support certification (BCLS).
• Good working knowledge and navigation of computers.
• Evidence of continuing professional development.
• Successfully able to perform their function in accordance with prescribed standards that focuses on the priority of People Safety and the delivery of the highest standard of Quality Care.
• Demonstrate the physical and mental capabilities necessary for proper and efficient performance of the essential duties of the position.
Duties:
• Cardiac Testing
• Perform the following cardiac testing procedures independently as requested of the department including 12 and 15 lead ECG’s, application of a loop recorder, and application of a 24- or 48-hour Holter monitor.
• Perform the following cardiac testing procedures as member of the team as requested of the department including exercise stress tests, stress echocardiogram, and Nuclear Medicine Stress Testing.
• Monitors patient responses and reports changes in real-time ECG or blood pressure to the supervising physician.
• Carry out routine maintenance/cleaning of equipment as per guidelines.
• Ensures that the patient is comfortable and safe during cardiac procedures.
• Documentation
• Accurately and clearly record all information on the appropriate documents
• Maintain testing logs and files according to established guidelines (ie MUSE).
• Utilizes computerized systems and applications to maintain patient records, including obtaining and entering patient demographics, histories and charts as required, in accordance with policies, procedures and professional practice standards.
• Ensures adequate supplies are available.
• Communications and Collaborations
• Collaborate with clinician/nursing staff and abnormal findings as soon as possible
• Acts as a resource person by collegially sharing, demonstrating, and providing guidance regarding technical procedures to other technologists, students, and members of the multidisciplinary team.
• Participates in the training and orientation of students from Mohawk College.
• Establishes and maintains ethical working relationships and good rapport with all interrelating hospitals, referral, or commercial agencies.
• Adapt communication and interpersonal skills to deal effectively with patients and their families, co-workers, physicians, volunteers, and others within our health care community.
• Demonstrate values and a commitment to foster a healthy, supportive work environment dedicated to delivering a high-quality care experience though compassion, innovation, and respect.
• Effectively apply organizational and time management skills to prioritize workload, to problem solve, and to adapt to frequent interruptions and change.
• Abide by all SMGH policies and procedures, (i.e., Occupational Health & Safety Act, Public Hospitals Act,) position obligations, and perform work duties in accordance with SMGH’s Code of Conduct.
