The Chiropodist will be accountable for the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of foot disorders for patients of the NDFHT, particularly for those patients affected by chronic disease. The primary focus of the Chiropodist is to prevent and treat foot ulceration and amputation.

Patient Assessment and Care
• Provide assessment of identified patients through lower extremity physical examination, patient health history and relevant clinical findings
• Review patients’ clinical information obtained through physician referral, laboratory reports and health records
• Assess the impact of an injury, disability, or disease (including rheumatoid arthritis /diabetes/ sprains/strains) on foot function
• Based on assessments, develop and execute care plans to assist patients in managing foot disorders
• Provide wound care management

• Educate and advise patients about the prevention and care of foot complications relating to chronic diseases (eg. diabetes and peripheral vascular disease)
• Develop group foot care and footwear education programs
• Collaborate with other IHPS in developing group education programs for patients managing chronic disease

• Prepare monthly or statistical reports as required by the NDFHT
• Actively participate in interdisciplinary, staff, team and committee meetings
• Participate in NDFHT educational programs and relevant external workshops, courses and conferences
• Contribute to and participate in overall NDFHT planning, programming and evolution


Qualifications and Relevant Experience:
•Completion of a DCh degree or diploma in chiropody
• Current member of the College of Chiropodists of Ontario
• Minimum of 3 years’ experience as a Chiropodist preferred
• Professional liability insurance
• A valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle for home visits

Skills, Knowledge Requirements:
• Proven ability to work in and contribute to an inter-disciplinary health care environment
• Exceptional oral and written communication skills
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
• Ability to prioritize tasks, manage time and multi-task effectively in a very fast-paced work environment
• High degree of computer proficiency
