Duties
The Chiropodist provides quality foot care services to clients within a care modality that emphasizes health promotion, disease prevention and ongoing client education. In this capacity, the employee:
• Performs clinical duties by assessing clients for foot health and illness care.
• Treats and prevents disease, dysfunctions or disorders of the foot by therapeutic treatment and orthotic, surgical or palliative means.
• Prescribes, modifies, custom-designs and manufactures orthotic devices and foot wear for clients as appropriate.
• Administers substances by injection and prescribes indicated medications within the limitations of their professional licenses.
• Performs surgical procedures in accordance with the standards of the College of Chiropodists of Ontario.
• Acts in an ethical and professional manner in accordance with the guidelines and standards of the Sandy Hill Community Health Centre and the College of Chiropodists of Ontario.
• Provides clinical advice and support to other Health Services practitioners as required to ensure the best possible quality of care to clients.
• Organizes and participates in a broad range of health promotion and health education activities and programs to improve foot health of clients.
• Maintains current certification required for all chiropody procedures.
• Collaborates with other programs of the Community Health Centres where the chiropodist works, as appropriate.
• Ensures appropriate, comprehensive treatment is delivered by maintaining complete and accurate medical records in accordance with regulatory College guidelines and SHCHC medical record policies and practices.
• Ensures the accurate and timely recording of clinical statistics as required by the Sandy Hill Community Health Centre, the Champlain Local Health Integration Network and the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care.

Requirements for this position include:
Education and Language
• Graduation from an accredited school of chiropody
• Current registration with the College of Chiropodists of Ontario
• Under the Centre’s designation to provide French Language Services:
- French (oral expression): Advanced
- French (oral comprehension): Advanced
- French (reading comprehension): Advanced
• Fluency in English, both oral and written
Professional Experience
• Three to five years’ experience in a community-based primary care setting
• Experience working with a broad range of populations, including: youth, street involved, people with or at risk of psychiatric disability, people with substance use disorder, multi-cultural communities and disenfranchised groups
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• Thorough knowledge of and proficiency in the theory behind and practical application of chiropody
• Knowledge of the impact of social/cultural/economic factors on the determinants of health
• Knowledge of adult education techniques
• Commitment to and knowledge of community-based health care
• Strong interpersonal, organizational and problem-solving skills
• Effective communication skills
• Ability to work under stress with multiple demands
• Ability to use a capacity-building approach in working with clients
• Ability to be flexible, cooperative and work as part of a team
• Ability to work autonomously
• Ability to perform well under stress and to deal with multiple demands and unpredictable days
• Ability to deal effectively with a diverse community of all ages and with clients who experience barriers to accessing health services
• Proficiency in the use of computers and various software applications
• Demonstrated flexibility, good judgment, tact, initiative & creativity
