Duties

JOB SUMMARY:

The Cytotechnologist reports to the Laboratory Manager or designate and is responsible and accountable for laboratory testing performed according to established laboratory protocols. The candidate will be scheduled in Cytology and other areas of the lab as required. The Cytotechnologist will demonstrate aptitude in the Cytology discipline according to theory, technique, skill in performing procedures, knowledge of those procedures and the implications of Quality Control and Quality Assurance. The Cytotechnologist is responsible for delivery of care consistent with the vision and values of the hospital and the standards of relevant professional organizations. The incumbent must comply with the Occupational Health and Safety standards for the hospital and is proactive in promoting a safe work environment.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS / EDUCATION:

• Current registration as a Cytotechnologist with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario (CMLTO) - required;
• CSMLS registration in Cytopathology
• Evidence of competency with respect to Cytology as per CMLTO guidelines;
• Knowledge of Quality Control Programs and equipment maintenance - required
• Ensures the confidentiality of all patient information;
• Ability to work effectively within a collaborative team environment;
• Excellent technical and decision making skills
• Committed to the values of the organization
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with patients, visitors and staff
• General good health and a level of functional ability appropriate to the demands of the position
