WORKSITE LOCATION IS FLEXIBLE- Royal Inland Hospital (RIH) – Kamloops; East Kootenay Regional Hospital (EKH) – Cranbrook; Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital (KBH) – Trail; Penticton Regional Hospital (PRH); Kelowna General Hospital (KGH); Vernon Jubilee Hospital (VJH)

Duties

JOB SUMMARY:
In accordance with established vision and values of the organization, the position promotes a safe environment for patients, residents, families, visitors and staff.

Reporting to the Professional Practice Leader (or designate), the MRI Technologist performs magnetic resonance imaging procedures. Assists the Radiologists during procedure, inputs patient specific data into the Radiology Information System (RIS) PACS and provides direction regarding procedures to student technologists and staff trainees.

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Performs magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) procedures as designated.
2. Monitors patient care and safety by ensuring procedures adhere to department standards, policies and protocols.
3. Participates in and provides input into quality improvement, Quality Control (eg. Coil testing) and risk management procedures and processes.
4. Assists the Radiologists during examinations including positioning, imaging, data processing and sterile procedures.
5. Communicates with patients, physicians and staff on topics such as explaining procedures, consent, allergies, etc.
6. Inputs patient data into the RIS and PACS, including patient demographics, administration of drugs/contrast, additional exams, patient allergies, and other relevant information.
7. Works collaboratively with radiologists, physicians and other health care professionals incorporating best practices.
8. Ensures relevant clinical data is collected for all procedures in accordance with established procedures.
9. Assesses technical quality of images and applies corrective measures where necessary.
10. Participates in the instruction/orientation of employees and/or students by assisting with departmental orientations, in-service presentations, demonstrating procedures and answering questions.
11. Cleans and tests imaging related equipment. Performs minor adjustments on equipment and follows departmental protocol for reporting necessary repairs.
12. Reports any hazards, equipment faults, problems or issues that exist to mitigate undesirable outcomes.
13. Performs a variety of non-technical duties as required such as portering patients, editing/entering patient examination data in clinical information systems, ordering supplies, answering phones, etc.
14. Maintains clean and safe work areas.
15. Assists in maintaining procedure manuals and reference materials for the area by performing duties such as reviewing, drafting, updating and recommending changes to the Professional Practice Leader/Supervisor.
16. Maintains and updates own clinical knowledge within area of practice.
17. Organizes and stocks examination rooms, change rooms, waiting area, supply room and traffic area.
18. Performs other related duties as assigned

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education, Training and Experience:
Graduate of an accredited Magnetic Resonance Imaging program.

Certification in Magnetic Resonance Imaging with the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists (CAMRT).
