We currently have several opportunities available for Full Time Medical Laboratory Technologist in the Histology & Cytology.
• FT 8 Hours - Monday – Saturday Days & Evenings, 7.5 hour shifts (No nights)
• Home base is Histology. Alternate area is Cytology.

How Medical Laboratory Technologist support our teams at Grand River Hospital:
• The MLT performs and is responsible for a variety of laboratory tests and procedures while acting in accordance with the Mission, Vision, Values of the Hospital and expectations within the Medical Laboratory Program.

• With an initiative to cross-develop staff coinciding with full-time opportunities, the successful applicant to this posting will be assigned Histology as a home unit with cross-development and work in Cytology. The MLT may be involved in all aspects of the Anatomical Pathology department, and the composition of such work may be modified from time to time.

• Responsible for performing all Cytology related procedures including; specimen preparation using Thin Prep technology, screening, troubleshooting methodologies, reporting, routine preventive maintenance on equipment, and attending EBUS procedure for rapid on-site assessment of specimen adequacy.

• Responsible for performing all Histology related procedures including; embedding, microtomy, staining (routine, special, and immunohistological), decalcification and reprocessing of tissue specimens, and routine preventive maintenance on equipment.

• Participate in the departments Quality Assurance Program and Accreditation compliance plans. Ensure compliance with standard operating procedures and Accreditation Canada Diagnostics standards.

• Contributes to ensuring there is a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors. Follows the code of professional conduct of the CMLTO, CSMLS and values of GRH.

At Grand River Hospital, the Medical Laboratory Technologist:
• Current registration with the CMLTO – Cytology & Histology;
• Certification with CSMLS – Cytology & Histology;
• Recent Histology and Cytology experience required;
• Knowledge of the requirements of the Accreditation Canada Diagnostics standards;
• Excellent computer skills, particularly with Microsoft Office and Laboratory Information Systems;
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision;
• Good attendance record;
• Exhibit ability to prioritize work;
• Consult with peers, senior, manager or Pathologist when appropriate relative to Laboratory testing and tasks;
• Communicates effectively with physicians, nurses and other hospital personnel – includes basic interpretation of laboratory test results and explanations of limitations of the test procedure.
