Duties
• Perform pre-analytical, analytical and post analytical work in the assigned area
• Operate and maintain laboratory equipment, with appropriate training and competency assessments
• Document tasks and results appropriately
• Recognize failure, troubleshoot, take remedial action, report and document events as required
• Participate in the inventory control program and take appropriate actions
• Assist with development and implement protocol for laboratory equipment, methodologies, measurement instrumentation & devices
• Work collaboratively on testing validation, operation, maintenance and troubleshooting of technology
• Cutting frozen sections, and operation of automated staining equipment, as applicable to the assigned area
• Review / update SOP as required
• Review and monitor standards for technical efficiency, quality assurance, and regulations
• Participate and support the quality management system, including policies, process and procedures
• Participate with quality management system activities
• Audit reports and follow up on non-conformances in compliance to relevant standards, regulations and policies
• Participate in continuous quality improvement activities
• Coordinate with staff and acquaint/orientate new employees

Requirements
• CMLTO Registration as a General Medical Laboratory Technologist required
• An undergraduate degree in Science or a related subject matter preferred
• Three (3) years of progressively responsible and related experience preferred
• In-depth knowledge of techniques, principles and instruments and their interrelationships; ability to operate and troubleshoot common laboratory equipment
• Two (2) years of frozen section experience preferred
• Able to exercise independent judgement, deductive reasoning with attention to detail
• Able to work effectively under pressure in emergency situations
• Proven organizational skills with the ability to assess requests and prioritize them to ensure good and prompt patient care
• Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to comprehensive safety programs and practices
• Good work and attendance record required
• Demonstrated WCH vision mission and values
• Professional behavior and communication that meets the standards of the professional regulatory college or association, as applicable, and the standards of Women’s College Hospital
• This position plays a critical role in acting as an advocate for safety and will demonstrate principles, practices and processes that will optimize a safe environment for all
