Duties

THE OPPORTUNITY
As a Medical Radiation Technologist, you will deliver high quality diagnostic imaging services for inpatients, outpatients, and emergency cases, ensuring precise and reliable imaging results that directly contribute to patient care and treatment. Your technical expertise and commitment to excellence will play a pivotal role in supporting accurate and timely medical diagnoses.

You will work as part of a skilled healthcare team, ensuring seamless departmental operations while adhering to the highest safety standards. KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Supporting and promoting the mission and vision of the hospital in interactions with patients, staff, and the general public.
Performing high-quality diagnostic imaging examinations for inpatients, outpatients, and emergency cases in accordance with hospital standards and protocols.
Preparing exam rooms and diagnostic imaging equipment, ensuring adherence to infection control, radiation safety, and patient safety protocols.
Reviewing diagnostic imaging orders to ensure completeness and relevance of clinical information.
Explaining procedures to patients in a clear and compassionate manner, obtaining consent, and addressing questions within the scope of practice.
Positioning and instructing patients for imaging procedures, ensuring patient safety, comfort, and optimal image quality.
Operating stationary and mobile radiographic equipment, including performing CT examinations and initiating intravenous access using aseptic technique.
Preparing and administering contrast media as required (orally, rectally, or via intravenous injection) while monitoring for adverse reactions.
Ensuring accurate image production, storage, retrieval, and distribution, resolving PACS exceptions, and exporting images as needed.
Maintaining radiographic equipment by completing routine maintenance, troubleshooting malfunctions, and coordinating repairs as necessary.
Participating in the implementation, monitoring, and reporting of quality control and quality improvement programs.
Attending departmental meetings and contributing to discussions to improve processes and patient care.
Assisting with patient care tasks, including lifting, turning, and positioning, while ensuring patient safety and dignity.
Maintaining accurate records and documentation, including patient demographics, clinical information, and imaging requisitions.
Ordering, stocking, and managing necessary departmental supplies, verifying inventory levels, and expediting orders as needed.
Educating and orienting new staff, volunteers, and co-op students within the department.
Ensuring compliance with radiation safety policies and procedures, adhering to hospital and regulatory standards to protect patients and staff.
Supporting the department’s operational needs by coordinating appointments, obtaining lab results, and preparing files as required.
Demonstrating commitment to professional development through participation in ongoing education and training programs.
Maintaining a high level of personal health, regular attendance, and punctuality to ensure the consistent delivery of quality care.
Fostering a collaborative and positive work environment while maintaining patient and hospital confidentiality at all times.
Performing other duties as assigned by Diagnostic Imaging leadership and quality teams.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
The ideal candidate will possess the following key competencies, record of experience and academic preparation:

Current membership in College of Medical Radiation Technologists of Ontario (CMRTO) as a Medical Radiation Technologist.
Experience with PACS systems and an ability to assume a super-user role in PACS applications.
Experience with CT systems and an ability to assume a super-user role in CT applications.
Formal education and experience in a CT environment, including CT operation and venipuncture.
Meditech and Philips PACS experience, preferred.
CPR certification, preferred.
Experience in Bone Mineral Densitometry is an asset.
Demonstrated commitment to professional practice and self-development.
Demonstrated understanding of and participation in quality improvement initiatives.
Previous experience with and demonstrated evidence of organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.
Able to work independently and co-operatively as part of a team.
Ability to adapt to change in a fast-paced working environment, organize, prioritize and multi-talk efficiently.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Demonstrated consistent punctuality and attendance record, maintaining a high level of reliability and commitment to performing duties with efficiency and effectiveness in previous roles.
