A Perfusionist is an allied health professional specially trained to assist the physician in the treatment of patients requiring a variety of cardiovascular support. The Perfusionist is responsible for the care and support of the patient in the operative and perioperative environment. At St. Mary’s General Hospital, the Perfusionist functions in a highly specialized adult cardiac surgical environment. The Perfusionist contributes to clinical, education and research-based practice within the scope of perfusion science and the Cardiac Program.
