The Cancer Centre currently receives over 3000 new cancer patients each year, and conducts approximately 38,000 radiation therapy visits. Duties
Deliver safe and accurate daily radiation treatments to patients by educating, preparing, and positioning for treatment, assessing verification images, and taking necessary corrective action.
Consult with Radiation Oncologists (RO) and Medical Physicists regarding treatment plans (e.g. interpreting computer dosimetry data).
Develop computerized treatment plans based on prescriptions and dose limits to critical structures.
Perform dose calculations based on RO’s prescription and enter into the Record and Verify system.
Perform quality assurance of all treatment plans and dose calculations prepared by co-workers, and verify RO prescriptions.
Perform routine quality assurance tests on a variety of technical equipment and initiate corrective action as required.
Verify patient information and machine parameters by using computer systems.
Prepare electronic treatment charts.
Perform treatment preparation duties, including Computed Tomography (CT) Simulation and customized accessory fabrication (e.g. moulds, immobilization devices, and other beam modifying devices).
Work collaboratively with other health care professionals to ensure quality patient care and continuing professional education.
Evaluate patient care and satisfaction on an ongoing basis and formulate solutions for improvement.
Determine and align improvement projects with HSN’s Strategic Plan; monitor and adjust to achieve goal outcomes.
Participate in education and training specific to current, relevant federal and provincial health and safety legislation, standards and guidelines.
Educate and promote health, safety and wellness in the work place.
Represent the department or program on various committees and in meetings as required.
Perform other duties as required.
Requirements
The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of a three (3) year Bachelor’s Degree in Radiation Therapy, from an accredited university and current Certificate of Registration with the College of Medical Radiation Technologists of Ontario (CMRTO). However, candidates expected to obtain registration in the next few months and recent graduates are strongly encouraged to apply.
