Duties
TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Verifies all patient information is accurate and correct by reconciling requisition information verbally with patient and checking relevant patient history.
2. Organizes and performs assigned radiographic examinations in accordance with established departmental policies and procedures.
3. Provides patients with an accurate description of radiographic examinations and associated risks, answering related patient questions.
4. Prepares and positions patients for radiographic examinations and procedures.
5. Prepares diagnostic agents and sterile trays as required.
6. Performs basic follow-up care post-examination, such as assisting the patient to transfer, dress, or to the
washroom, and notifies the appropriate health care provider of any change in patient status. Collaborates with other staff to support efficient and timely management of patient care. Transports patients to other units within the hospital as required.
7. Documents and records examinations and procedures performed in accordance with established procedures.
8. Operates a variety of computer applications, such as Picture Archiving and Communications System (PACS) and Hospital Information/Radiology Information Systems (HIS/RIS), as well as a variety of digital and analog radiographic imaging equipment and accessory equipment, adhering to established procedures.
9. Verifies and checks the quality and integrity of radiographic images within the electronic patient image file.
10. Observes safety regulations, standards and procedures, such as use of equipment, infection control, and radiation protection. Cleans and tidies work area according to departmental cleaning and safety procedures.
11. Reviews quality control results, conducts initial troubleshooting to diagnose problems, and reports equipment and procedural problems/concerns to designated staff.
12. Provides reception, patient booking and general clerical duties as required. Records and reports radiographic supply requirements for ordering in accordance with established procedures.
13. Demonstrates procedures and participates in orientation as required.
14. Keeps abreast of technological developments by reading related literature, and attends in-services and
workshops as required.
15. Performs other related duties as required.
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education, Training And Experience
Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists (CAMRT) certification as a Medical Radiation Technologist.
Graduation from an approved radiology technology program. Eligible for membership in the CAMRT.
