Duties
DUTIES:
-Stocks and replaces cylinders on patient wards, critical care areas and the operating rooms
-Cleans, processes, assembles and tests reusable respiratory equipment
-Organizes a system of inventory control to maintain adequate quantities of required supplies
-Performs minor repairs of respiratory related equipment
-Prepares and tests anaesthetic gas machines and anaesthesia related equipment
-Handles storage of medical and specialty gases
-Prepares and tests critical care ventilators
-Assists with related departmental projects and initiatives
-Ensures safety standards and regulations are maintained
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS:
-Current enrolment in a Respiratory Therapy Program required
-Related experience in Respiratory Therapy would be an asset
-Demonstrated ability to read and understand basic medical terminology, concepts of sterility and aseptic technique
-Ability to understand and problem solve issues related to respiratory equipment and their safe usage
-Experience with respiratory equipment, mechanical ventilators, medical and specialty gases (This position also involves exposure to various gases and soiled equipment)
-Demonstrated excellent customer-focused approach to patients and staff
-Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively as a team member
-Must be physically able to perform duties requiring heavy exertion (lifting, pushing and pulling)
-Previous related experience an asset
-Basic Life Support certification is an asset
-Demonstrated commitment to and understanding of the mission and values of St. Joseph Health Centre
