Duties
Performs delivery of supplies and equipment functions (e.g. oxygen tanks, collects and prepares respiratory equipment for assembly; delivers assembled equipment to appropriate location, and collects equipment as required and assists with delivery of equipment to/from THP receiving, stores, medical engineering and MDRD)
Assists with the circuiting and functionality testing of Respiratory Therapy related equipment such as ventilators, high flow devices, heated humidity devices following established guidelines after re-processing
Supports Code Blue carts audits and restocking of carts as required
Practices under the supervision of an appointed regulated Respiratory Therapist in a manner consistent with the professional standards of the College of Respiratory Therapists of Ontario, while taking into account the limitations placed on the position to support the safe provision of care for patients
Works with the assigned Respiratory Therapist to ensure that the incumbent has the knowledge, skills and judgment needed to perform all actions/duties and requests assistance with assigned duties whenever needed for all patient populations (e.g. adult, pediatric and neonatal)
Under the supervision of the Respiratory Therapist preceptor, supports basic patient care functions as assigned, including performing basic vital signs, set-up of oxygen and suction equipment, and supporting patient positioning (including pronation/supination), which require lifting and pushing/pulling, while utilizing proper technique (if applicable)
Assists with equipment set up and disassembling for respiratory therapy procedures assigned by the Respiratory Therapist
Assists with patient transport preparation
Assists with discharge planning, i.e. notification of vendor regarding respiratory equipment and supply needs for home oxygen, CPAP, BiPAP.
Performs other duties consistent with the job classification as required and requested by the Clinical Manager or delegate: data collection, quality assurance etc.
Reports to work on all shifts assigned, or ensures that the Clinical Manager or delegate is notified if absence prior to the start of the shift
Maintains confidentiality according to the hospital policy
Demonstrates good communication and interpersonal skills
Satisfactory performance and attendance required
Requirements
Respiratory Therapy students in their second and third year of an educational program accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Respiratory Therapy Education, which is administered by the Canadian Society of Respiratory Therapists.
Demonstrated evidence of excellent academic standing
Evidence of successful learning experiences in recent clinical placements
Effective interpersonal and communication skills
Salary
$26.167/ per hour
