On December 16th, the MRI program held a curriculum retreat on site at Michener to bring education and healthcare experts together for a review of MRI 1st Discipline and to plan next steps for the program’s future.
Launched in January 2024, the MRI 1st Discipline program was designed to address the health human resource shortages and the long wait times that patients face for diagnostic imaging. The program brings non-imaging professionals into the MRI field and builds their skillset to deliver effective and compassionate care to patients.
After the program’s first academic cycle, Chair Ghada Faddoul saw an opportunity to connect with the partners who helped develop the 1st Discipline curriculum and gather feedback on the material and course delivery. Ghada and the MRI faculty also hosted separate student focus groups to get a sense of the program from the learner’s perspective.
“The retreat was a great success,” says Ghada. “The session brought key MRI experts to the table, both internally and externally, to discuss ways that we can drive the curriculum and quality initiatives for the program.”
With this valuable feedback in hand, Ghada and the MRI faculty will implement plans like expanding the program’s education technology, recruiting new faculty and creating faculty focus groups to discuss the best content delivery. All of this work will help the program meet student expectations and improve the overall student experience at Michener.
