Toronto, ON – On Thursday, May 18, 2023, The Michener Institute, a leading school for applied health sciences education, determined that it was the target of a cybersecurity incident. The school took immediate action to secure and protect its network, consulted with external experts to investigate the incident and ensure that processes and safeguards were further strengthened, and brought systems back up safely to ensure business continuity. Remote and in-person classes have not been impacted, though some online services experienced periodic disruptions. The Michener Institute is diligently assessing what student or staff information may have been impacted and will take appropriate action once those determinations are made.
The Information & Privacy Commissioner of Ontario has been notified and consultation is taking place. The school continues to actively manage the incident and is taking steps toward remediation.
