Alumni Association Board Update – February 2021

Hello Michener Alumni.

All the best to you and your loved ones as we start a new year. The challenge is greater now more than ever with COVID-19 numbers climbing in many local areas. May you stay safe wherever you are.

For those who are interested in engaging our current students, the board is looking at opportunities to have alumni participate with students through virtual meet-up sessions and share with them their experiences in the clinical world and professional perspective. If this sounds interesting to you, please email us at alumni@michener.ca so that we can get in touch with you as things develop.

On December 15th, the board held our Annual General Meeting (AGM). While the AGM is always a good opportunity for the board and the general membership to communicate, we also held elections for executive positions. As your Chair, I have held this position since 2014 and the AGM marked the natural conclusion to my two terms. I am pleased to announce that Ruvette Coelho (previously our Vice-Chair) accepted the nomination for the position of board Chair and was subsequently elected. With Ruvette newly vacating the Vice-Chair position, Eryl Fraser was nominated and elected as her successor. Congratulations to both – the future of the board is in great hands.

Looking back at my time as Chair, I was fortunate to have a very enthusiastic and supportive board powering our group with the boundless energy to carry us through many meetings, events and major milestones. As I now move into the role of past Chair, I hope to be able to fulfill this role with the wisdom and leadership formerly provided by Christine Nielsen. And endless gratitude goes to Ray Nielsen who has been our Michener Staff support since I started. We both began our roles in 2014 and from the beginning, Ray has been patient throughout my learning process as well as facilitating the various needs of our board – always accommodating and often creative in helping us meet demands. Finally, I’d like to thank all of you, the alumni. The great memories that I’ve had while being Chair were only made possible by our members and our board. It has been my pleasure to serve you.

Best regards,
Hollin Ng
