Alumni Board Update – February 2022

Hello Michener Alumni,

All the best to you and your loved ones as we start a new year.  The Alumni Association has already had their first meeting in 2022 and we are committed to bring you a great experience. At the meeting, we welcomed a new student rep, Kanika Duggal, from the Chiropody program to the Alumni Board. We look forward to having her ideas and enthusiasm energize our efforts.

On December 14th, we held our Annual General Meeting (AGM), a good opportunity for the board and the general membership to meet and communicate. It was also a good time to reflect on the past year. The past year was filled with virtual events including Michener’s second virtual graduation in which the alumni board played a role. Additionally, the Alumni board conducted discipline specific meet-ups with current students, allowing for mutual connection. If you would like to participate, please contact us at the email address below. Looking ahead to this year, we hope to continue these sessions and our contributions to the Michener experience and hopefully soon, meet in person.

In February, we will be celebrating Black History Month to honour the contributions and legacy of Black Canadians including our alumni. The theme is February and Forever: Celebrating Black History Today and Everyday to reinforce the importance of equity and to remember that these efforts go well beyond the month of February. We will also be celebrating the Lunar New Year of the Water Tiger. Michener will host the third Convergence education conference with the theme of Courageous Conversations for Future Health Professions Education. All apropos for the times we are currently living in.

As always, let us know if you have comments or suggestions at alumni@michener.ca. And, if you haven’t already done so, visit us at the Michener Institute Alumni Facebook group page. We are delighted to hear from you!

Cheers,
