Announcing Michener’s new Dean of Student Affairs and Registrar

We are delighted to announce two key new appointments at Michener’s School of Applied Health Sciences.

Dr. Melanie Spence-Ariemma will be Michener’s new Dean of Student Affairs. Melanie has an impressive history and considerable experience in applied healthcare and in post-secondary education and administration. She has been a faculty member in Michener’s joint Radiation Therapy programs and has also served as a faculty member and clinical coordinator in the Mohawk-McMaster Medical Radiation Science program. In 2010 she moved to Sheridan College and served as Associate Vice-President and most recently as Provost and Vice-President Academic. Over the past nine years she has worked closely and collaboratively with the Student Affairs department, the Registrar as well as Library and Learning Services on activities and initiatives that support students. These have included integration of new systems and processes, student recruitment, retention and success strategies, enhancement of resource supports, and the development and implementation of academic and administrative policies and procedures. Complimenting this is her extensive experience with the development and implementation of new programs, which include working with the Postsecondary Education Quality Assessment Board (PEQAB).

Miranda Cheng will be Michener’s new Registrar, coming to us after a long and distinguished academic administrative career at the University of Toronto. As the inaugural Director of the International Student Exchange Office and the Centre for International Experience at the University of Toronto, Miranda initiated a suite of programs that successfully recruited international students, expanded the supports available to them, and enhanced their academic experience. Most recently, she has served as the Assistant and now the Associate Registrar at St. Michael’s College of the University of Toronto.

Please join us in welcoming Melanie and Miranda to our Michener community. Melanie will begin on March 22, 2021 and Miranda on April 5, 2021.

We also wish to thank the other members of the search committee – Luckshi Sathasivam, Deborah Russell and Andrea Etherington – who joined us in the enjoyable, but difficult, task of considering the many fine applications we received for these positions.

Harvey P. Weingarten, Principal, and Fiona Cherryman, Head of Academic Affairs and Operations
