Dr. Sanja Beca has been appointed Vice Principal, Academic for The Michener Institute of Education at UHN, bringing with her a breadth of experience across health professions education, research and academic leadership.
Dr. Beca is an accomplished academic leader, educator and researcher with more than 20 years of experience spanning post-secondary education, research and academic administration. She holds a PhD from the University of Calgary’s Faculty of Medicine and an MD from the University of Belgrade.
Through her career, Dr. Beca has led work in academic planning and program development, accreditation and quality assurance, clinical education, simulation-based learning, educational innovation and health workforce development.
She joins Michener from Georgian College, where she served as Dean of the Faculty of Health, Wellness and Sciences, providing leadership for the College’s largest academic portfolio.
She also spent more than a decade at Sheridan College where she served as Associate Dean and Professor in the Faculty of Applied Health Sciences and Community Studies and held teaching and research appointments at the University of Toronto, which included cardiovascular research within the Heart & Stroke / Richard Lewar Centre of Excellence.
Scholarly contributions include publications in leading medical journals such as Circulation Research and Journal of Clinical Investigation.
Dr. Beca’s previous leadership roles helped expand program delivery across provinces and built strong partnerships with healthcare organizations, community agencies, government and industry to support education, workforce needs and learner success.
