- Perform initial steps in neonatal resuscitation
- Ventilate a neonate
- Practice chest compressions
- Discuss endotracheal intubation
- Understand medications used for resuscitation

Intended For
This course is suited for MDs, Nurses, Midwives, RRTs and Paramedics who may be required to resuscitate newborn babies.
Important information for Second Birth Attendants:
The College of Midwives of Ontario has developed new standards related to Second Birth Attendants.
In order to receive a CPS NRP Provider card (proof of completion) second birth attendants must, like all NRP workshop participants, meet the following eligibility requirements:
- Be a licensed or registered health professional; or
- Be a student of a licensed or registered health profession; and
- Be expected, as part of their professional scope of practice to participate in newborn resuscitation.
Please note: As per the CPS the following criteria will apply:
New Provider: Have not previously completed an NRP Provider course. You may be looking to enter a position involving new born care. Do not regularly perform newborn resuscitation as part of your current clinical responsibilities.
Experienced Provider: Currently provide newborn resuscitation as part of your clinical responsibilities on a regular and on-going basis.
This course is also available by contract for on-site delivery. Please email ce@michener.ca for information.
Physicians: NRP is approved for Mainpro-C credits (College of Family Physicians of Canada) and Maintenance of Certification Section 2 credits (Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada). NRP course participants can claim credits for every educational hour.
These credits apply to all NRP training, including Provider courses and Instructor training/updates.
Nurses: In Canada, nurses can log their course time as part of their provincial regulatory body’s continuing competency requirements.
Midwives: In Canada, midwives can log their course time as part of their provincial regulatory body’s continuing competency requirements.
RRTs: The individual regulatory bodies determine what qualifies for credits according to their program. The Canadian Society of Respiratory Therapists allocates 1 credit per educational hour.
The NRP course and online exam is approved for continuing professional education and development credits.

Prerequisites
• Completion of the online Canadian Pediatric Society (CPS) NRP exam no more than 30 days prior to the course date. The 8th edition exam format is:
Part 1: Essentials (Lessons 1-4) uses an adaptive learning format which adapts the learning experience to each individual learner.
Part 2: Advanced (Lessons 5-11) uses the standard MCQ format.
• The exam can be found at: Online NRP exam.
• The exam registration fee is not included in the Michener course fee.
• Please bring printed copy of your exam certificate to the course.
Please note : the 8th edition NRP exam will be released by the CPS on February 1,2022. You will not be able to access the exam before that date.
Text book:Neonatal Resuscitation Textbook 8th Edition (ISBN: 978-1-61002-524-9). The textbook can be purchased through the Canadian Paediatric Society online bookstore or by visiting the U of T bookstore.

COVID Vaccine Requirement:
Effective September 7th all learners, faculty and staff must provide proof of at least one-dose of approved COVID-19 vaccine to participate in any in-person learning or on-site activities. Proof of full vaccination will be required as of October 8th, 2021.
