Global Learning Opportunities in Health Education

Michener’s International Department develops customized programs which support strategic global health education initiatives aimed at improving the overall state of healthcare.

In collaboration with the Qatar Diabetes Association, Michener has trained over 40 nurses in the Gulf region of Qatar. Nurses from both the public and the private sector participated in this program which now runs on a yearly basis. An estimated one-in-five Qataris are affected by diabetes and more than half have three-or-more risk factors. This online distance program is certified by the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) and is taught by certified Diabetes Educators. The program concludes with a hands-on workshop offered in Qatar.

For over 15 years, Michener has offered the Advanced Ultrasound Diploma program in the Caribbean. This program is offered via Continuing Education at Michener and includes hands-on scanning and clinical placements in the Caribbean.

In partnership with the University of the West Indies (Mona Campus-Jamaica) and the College of Science and Technology of Trinidad and Tobago (COSTAATT), Michener enrolls radiological technologists interested in upgrading their skills in ultrasound. Students from this program can proceed to write the ARDMS exam.

This project was developed and delivered in collaboration with the Caribbean Epidemiology Centre (CAREC) in Trinidad and Tobago. The overall objective is that improved national and regional medical laboratory information leads to improved patient management, disease prevention and control. The beneficiary countries were the 15 CARIFORUM member states.

Michener seeks opportunities to provide customized health science programs off-shore. To date, we have offered programs in:

  • India
  • South Africa
  • Lebanon
  • Bangladesh
  • Thailand
  • Saudi Arabia
