The real-world experience gained from placements coordinated by The Michener Institute of Education at UHN is integral preparation for future health professionals. On Tuesday, January 27, 2026, the Michener students who completed their placements at the University Health Network (UHN) made their year-end project presentations to showcase the skills and knowledge they acquired over the 20-week term.

“The partnership between Michener and the UHN Laboratory Medicine Program continues to be a powerful example of how education and clinical practice come together to shape the future of healthcare,” says Rosetta Belcastro, Michener’s Academic Chair, MLS.

“Through their presentation, this year’s Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) students once again demonstrated the exceptional quality, professionalism and dedication of Michener learners as they transition from classroom and simulation to real-life clinical environments.”

Throughout their placements, students made meaningful contributions across laboratory disciplines, in both urban acute and rural remote settings — applying their technical skills, critical thinking and commitment to patient care. The year-end project presentations showcased not only strong scientific knowledge, but also innovation, teamwork and a clear understanding of how laboratory medicine directly supports clinical outcomes and system improvement.

“The Laboratory Medicine Program is proud to support the development of the next generation of laboratory professionals and grateful for the strong collaboration with Michener faculty and learners,” says Christine Bruce, Senior Director, Laboratory Medicine Program at UHN.

“The success of these placements reflect a shared commitment to excellence in education, mentorship, and workforce development — ensuring that Ontario’s health care system continues to benefit from highly skilled and passionate laboratory professionals.”
