At Kingston Health Sciences Centre (KHSC), our Genetics team plays a critical role in advancing patient care through specialized laboratory testing that supports diagnosis, treatment decisions, and ongoing monitoring.
As a Medical Laboratory Technologist – Genetics, you will bring your technical expertise and sound judgment to a collaborative, fast-paced environment—contributing directly to high-quality, patient- and family-centered care.
What You Will Do
In this role, you will:
- Perform accessioning, specimen handling, and processing
- Conduct specialized laboratory testing within Cytogenetics and/or Molecular Genetics
- Review and verify test results, ensuring accuracy prior to reporting and release
- Communicate critical and abnormal results in accordance with established procedures
- Carry out repeat testing and troubleshoot as required
- Perform and document quality control and quality assurance activities
- Maintain equipment, complete routine maintenance, and support minor troubleshooting
- Monitor and manage supplies and inventory to support efficient lab operations
- Support and guide Laboratory Assistants as needed
- Contribute to method development, validation, and implementation of new technologies
- Assist Pathologists, Laboratory Physicians, and Scientists with delegated medical acts
What You Bring
- Current registration with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario (CMLTO) with endorsement in the disciplines of Cytogenetics and Molecular Genetics
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams
- Demonstrated critical thinking, sound judgment, and problem-solving abilities
- Proficiency with Laboratory Information Systems and Microsoft Office tools
- A commitment to continuous learning and professional development
- Flexibility to meet operational needs, including scheduling and work location requirements
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
