About the Course
This 16-week hybrid course assists internationally educated medical laboratory technologists to prepare for the Canadian Alliance of Medical Laboratory Professionals Regulators (CAMLPR) national licensing examination in Canada. The program will consist of weekly synchronous sessions, online content, including the three mandatory weekend onsite sessions at The Michener Institute, over three weekends for simulated lab experience (mandatory/required).
Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the course, learners will be able to:
- Explain core principles of chromosome structure, inheritance patterns, and genetic variation in diagnostic care.
- Describe and implement laboratory safety measures, regulatory requirements, and quality control practices in cytogenetic testing.
- Analyze chromosomes using karyotyping, FISH, microarray, and QF-PCR, recognizing method-specific limitations and applying troubleshooting strategies to resolve common issues.
- Apply ISCN guidelines to describe chromosomal abnormalities and molecular results and assess data quality to communicate clinically significant interpretations.
