About the Course
This 16-week hybrid course assists internationally educated medical laboratory technologists to prepare for the Canadian Alliance of Medical Laboratory Professionals Regulators (CAMLPR) national licensing examination in Canada. The program will consist of weekly synchronous sessions, online content, including the three mandatory weekend onsite sessions at The Michener Institute, over three weekends for simulated lab experience (mandatory/required).
Outcome
Upon successful completion of the course, the Learner will be able to:
- Demonstrate the principles and practices of safety and infection control in the laboratory
- Identify the correct procedure for specimen collection, suitability, handling, and transportation
- Prepare clinical specimens for testing
- Analyze and interpret results of testing the clinical specimens from the following body systems: Central Nervous System,
- Cardiovascular, Gastrointestinal, Integumentary, Musculoskeletal, Reproductive, Respiratory, and Urinary
- Document and report the results of the analysis of the clinical specimens
- Practice and promote the principles of quality management
- Apply the principles of molecular biology in microbial identification
- Practice and promote professionalism
